Genealogies
This page contains abbreviated genealogies of project participants who have provided or intend to provide DNA samples. Participants are identified by a kit number allocated at the time of joining the project. The kit number guarantees participant anonymity. Genealogies provided should not contain the names of living persons. Living persons who are identified on this page have specifically permitted this. Participant genealogies: GROUP 1 Kit - #24898 Lineage of Clan CommanderOldest Proven Ancestor. Believed oldest known ancestor is
Neil McDiffie (b. 1687) of Argyll, Scotland. Summary. The family is known to have lived on the Ross of Mull, Argyll, Scotland, from at least the second generation onwards, perhaps initially drawn by the kelp industry. Their seven children (4m 3f) married there and at least some migrated to North America or Australasia. All lines of descent from the second generation parents have yet to be traced. In 1779 Neil was living at Knocknafenaig, Ross of Mull, Argyll, Scotland. He was listed as being 92 years old, with a wife also living. Summary. It is known that the family (Malcolm Mc/MacPhee, from Knocknafenaig & Ann McEachern from Fidden, per OPR marriage extract) came from their marital home (per OPR extracts of children's baptisms) of Knocknafenaig, Ross of Mull, Argyllshire in Scotland. They emigrated to Prince Edward Island, Canada in the early 1800s. (1820/21) Line to Most Recent non-living participant. 1.

not known. Family Web Site: http://www.islandregister.com/mcphee3.html Kit - 70OTC9 Oldest Proven Ancestor: John McDuffie - b Scotland, (Argyllshire?) Summary: The earliest evidence we have for an ancestral line to Scotland is John McDuffie (1755-1810),who emigrated from Scotland (from exactly which part of Scotland we are currently unsure) to North Carolina. In 1776, his spouse gave birth to a son also named John (1776-1850),who also resided in North Carolina. We are fairly certain of the above information although we cannot definitively verify its accuracy. What we can definitively prove is that John had a son, Alexander (1820-1897), who emigrated from North Carolina to Telfair County, GA and married Penelope Pickren (1832-1883). Among many daughters, Alexander had one son, John A. McDuffie (1859-1920), also of Telfair County, GA. John's thirteenth child, Rufus Henry McDuffie (1912-1982) of Preston, GA, is my grandfather. My father, Charles Henry McDuffie of Sautee, GA, will provide our sample. Line to Most Recent non-living participant: 1.
John McDuffie b1755 Scotland d1810 North Carolina Family Web Site: N/A Kit - #VMZ552 Oldest Proven Ancestor: Neil McPhee bc1781 Colonsay, Argylshire, Scotland Summary: This line is one of the most interesting as it is the only one which stretches from the distant past on Colonsay up to the present. As Colonsay is the ancestral home of the McPhees and formerly the McDuffies this is highly significant. There is every reason to believe that the forebears of Neil McPhee also lived on Colonsay and may have been McDuffies. It will be interesting to see which subsequent test results match with this "reference" result in the MacFie ancestral homeland. Line to Most Recent non-living participant: 1. Neil McPhee

immigrated to Dalton, Wayne Co, Ohio via Liverpool, England to New York City, New York,

Summary: John McFee (also once he signed as John McDuffee, and all his family changed their names to McDuffee after he died in 1752). John McFee and supposedly three of his brothers (perhaps cousins?) came to America in the 1720's. Descendants of the fifth brother came over somewhat later. Extensive genealogical research has been carried out on descendants of these families (over 1700 names). These men were probably grandsons (or sons?) of "Matchless" Martha McDuffee and her husband John McDuffee, who were in the siege of Londonderry, Northern Ireland, in 1689. John McFee settled in Rochester, NH. Daniel McDuffee (also called McFee very early on and not the same person as the Captain Daniel McDuffee in this line) settled in Londonderry, NH, as did his brother Archibald. Another brother Matthew apparently settled in MA. The fifth brother, Mansfield, emigrated from Northern Ireland to England, but his son William apparently came to America, probably to NJ. finding more positive information. Our first records pick up the
MacPhee/Macphies in Ullinish and Eabost in Bracadale parish with no other known Macphies
in the neighbouring Duirinish parish (at least not in the militia records ? age group 14

May have been a stone mason who worked on the Ottawa River Canals 1821-1834. He or father/grandfather may have had military experience (perhaps grandfather was one of 8 McPhees in 78th Fraser Highlanders in Quebec when regiment was disbanded in 1763). Known to have had a sister Janet (d1897) in Grenville, Quebec, who married their cousin Malcolm McPhee, son of Archibald McPhee and Margaret Graham from Cameron, Isle of Mull, emigrated to Grenville, Quebec, c1821. Donald McPhee and sister Janet were supposed to be related to Angus McPhee of St Andrews East, Quebec, who emigrated from Fort William in 1802 with brothers Ewen and Ronald, possibly as part of Archibald "Murlaggan" McMillan's expedition from Lochaber, Scotland Unable so far to identify Donald's parents. this gentleman even though we have thought up until recently that he was born in 1796, but
it is possible now that he was born in 1801. The photo on a glass plate, and behind

Family emigrated to USA James McPhee ( 1758 - 1842 ) of Kilmuir, Inverness-shire, Scotland immigrated to America in 1775 aboard the Glasgow. Conscripted into the British 84th Regiment of Foote, served in New- foundland. Received a land grant in Hants County for his service. Married Nancy (Ann ) (sir name unknown, passably a Micmac Indian maiden) born 1773 married 1789 in Kennetcook, Hants County, Nova Scotia. They had 13 children, Evan,Catherine,Donald,Mary Catherine,Christie Ann,Allan, (died before1804),John,Allan,Elizabeth,James,William,Alexander(1812),Peter. Alexander McPhee (1812-1884) and Catherine Nix (1818-aft1891, never found grave site) Hants County, Nova Scotia. They had 8 children, Christie, James, William, Elizabeth, Mary,Helen (Ellen),George Alexander 1855,Albert. George Alexander McPhee (1855-1930) Hants County, Nova Scotia and Margaret Hubbert, immigrated to America in 1873 with parents, 1 of 8 siblings (1862-1946)(County Cork, Youghal, Ireland, married in Lexington, Mass. 1880, moved to Minnesota and lived there until death. They had 5 children, Wilbur,Mary,Marguerite,George,Frank 1897, born Frank, changed to Francis for baptism. Francis Alexander McPhee, born in Kerkoven, Minn (1897-1972) married Beatrice Marie Pawek (1898-1974) in Bemidji, Minn.1926. They had 7 children, Alexander died at birth 1936. I am one of the 6 remaining children. Any help would be appreciated in locating the nationality of James' wife Nancy and her burial site, also Catherine Nix's burial site. God willing and the Arizona creek don't rise (wet winter, ha ha) we will travel to Minnesota and visit relatives in Canada, Nova Scotia and the New England states. In our trip to Scotland and Colonsay last May we didn't find out much before 1772 in the Inverness Library. It seems that John McPhee (1725) is not related to James McPhee (1758) However they both came to America on the same ship in 1775. Some genealogists say he provably not a son as John (1725) didn't claim him for the land grant. My theory was that he was old enough and had served in the 84th and was able to get his one land. However this DNA test has shown them not to be father and son. I also have extensive research on John McPhee (1725) born in Easter Bunloit, Scotland where we also visited. I cannot find parents for either John 1725 or James 1758. John's first child he claimed for extra land was Evan 1760 so James could still be the first born Line to Most Recent non-living participant: 1.
